WALTRIP SAYS KENTUCKY SPEEDWAY GETTING SPRINT CUP RACE

KENTUCKY ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME BANQUET HELD IN LOUISVILLE, NASCAR GREAT MICHAEL WALTRIP INDUCTED, BROTHER SAYS NASCAR SPRINT CUP COMING TO KENTUCKY SPEEDWAY IN 2011

A huge crowd turned out for the Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet at the Crowne Plaza in Louisville Wednesday evening. Owensboro native and NASCAR Star Michael Waltrip was part of the 2010 Class which included other great athletes including NFL star Dan Neal, former Louisville Cardinal QB Jeff Brohm, and UK's Mike Pratt. "I am so honored. My father would be proud. This means so much to me " said Michael Waltrip before the ceremonies.

In another interview with Kentuckiana Motorsports (which airs on WBKI, THE CW) Darrell Waltrip talked about a NASCAR Sprint Cup race coming to the Kentucky Speedway (The track is located about an hour north off Interstate 71) . The NASCAR Legend is the older brother of Michael Waltrip. "I am 99 percent sure the lawsuit will be settled and we'll be able to have a race (Sprint Cup) next year (at Kentucky Speedway)" said Waltrip, the FOX NASCAR sports announcer. "There have been meetings with Jerry Carroll and all those guys (Old owners of Kentucky Speedway), I've been keeping my eye on everything". Waltrip, who has been part of the formation of the Kentucky Speedway from its beginning said he believes everything is going to work out. It is all but a done deal. The former NASCAR Champion says he's looking forward to calling a Sprint Cup race to a large television audience in 2011 in his home state of Kentucky.
